Port Elizabeth’s Nicole van Schoor wins global short film competition

Out of the more than 1 000 entries from more than 70 countries in the 'SpongeBob SquareShorts: Original Fan Tributes' competition, 21-year old Nicole van Schoor (@NicoleVanSchoor) from Uitenhage, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape has won the prize for the '18 and over' category.

Graphic design student Van Schoor took home the prize thanks to her film "Finally Home" - a whimsical, live-action film that follows a dedicated SpongeBob fan and her quest to find her ultimate dream home.

Van Schoor receives a US$2 500 cash prize and a trip for four people to a special screening of the winning films at the first-ever SpongeBob Fan Shellabration, to be held 7-8 September at Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles, California.

Winners were chosen by fans via social media and online voting, as well as a panel of judges comprising Nickelodeon executives from all corners of the globe. The competition was organised by Nickelodeon (DStv Channel 305).

The winning entry for the “under 18 years of age” category was “The Krabby Commercial” by David (United States).
